Pomona

An Advanced Text Editor for Programmers

Our flagship program, Pomona is a smart solution to your text-editing needs. Plain-text files are extremely important to expert users, as their uses are many: C and C++ source code, HTML files, XML files, PERL scripts, and simply storing files in a minimal amount of space. Notepad and Wordpad, the two text editors included with Windows, are just not up to the task.

However, Pomona will revolutionize your work process. Pomona includes a number of convenient features:

  1. Concurrent editing of multiple files. HyperPad has a multiple document interface, meaning that the main program window contains smaller windows that display your document.
  2. Customizable user interface. The appearance of your documents, including the font, size, and foreground and background colors may be changed to your taste.
  3. HTML Preview tool. Quickly write your file to a temporary location and open it in the default web browser. All in a single click.
  4. Encryption. Hide files that you don't want others to see with one of four basic encryption schemes.
  5. Scripting. Minimize repetitive tasks with the Pretzel Logic command line and scripting system. [Enhanced in 2.0]

Version 1.4 (current)

You can test out the Pomona interface and what the program has to offer by downloading Version 1.4. This is an older version, and Pomona was known as HyperPad back when it came out.

Version 2.0 Beta

Version 2.0 Beta is out now. It includes:

Version 2.0 is a beta, so there are still some bugs. They have all been fixed and a final was ready to go, but the sources may be lost. (Recovery might still be possible as of now). Thus, this is really more of a preview of Version 2.1 (see below).

Version 2.1 (development)

Version 2.1 is the current version under development. All existing Pomona code in VB will be scrapped and work will start afresh in C++/FLTK. This means that a Linux and Mac port will be possible, as well as offering numerous performance advantages, and less files to be distributed (which makes it easier to run from, e.g., a floppy). Hope you're looking forward to it!

In the meantime, if you're on UNIX needing an able text editor for Web development, I strongly encourage you to check out Quanta Plus, which is much more capable (and specialised for Web development) than HyperPad, and open-source too. It's available in Fedora YUM repos, and a source tarball can be downloaded on the web. It's built on Qt and is part of the KDE desktop.
